Biography

Bedi Ibrahim was born in 1959 in Skopje. He graduated at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje, at the Department of Sculpture in the class of Professor Petar Hadzi Boskov in 1985. In 1999, he completed his master studies at the same Faculty, on the topic titled “Culture and Nature” to Professors Stefan Manevski and Vasil Vasilev. From 1985-1989, he was a member of the group “Zero”. From 1986, he is a member of the Macedonian Artists Association (DLUM). In 1991, he gained scholarship from the Ministry of Culture of Turkey for the artist in residence program at the “Mimar Sinan” University in Istanbul, and he also stayed in the studio of the world famous architect Cengiz Bektas. In 1992, under the mentorship of Professor Tomur Atagok, he conducted research in Cappadocia. From 1990 – 2002, he worked at the Theatre of Nationalities as a scenographer, painter, and sculptor. In the period between 2000 and 2002, he also held the function of director of Turkish Drama.

From 2002, he works at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje at the Department of Sculpture as an Associate Professor of sculpture, sculptural techniques, and drawing. In 1999, he was a member of the Council for Culture at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia, as well as a member of the Commission at the FARE Foundation. Again in 2003, he was a member of the Council for Culture at the Ministry of Culture. From the academic year 2005-2006 he teaches theater, film, and TV scenography at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Skopje. Since the establishment of the Children’s Theater Center (DTC), Ibrahim Bedi is the President of the Board of Directors, as well as an organizer of several projects in DTC. He is also a member of the School Board of the Primary School “Tefeyyuz”. In 2002, he was elected a member of the Advisory Board of the NGO “MULTI-MEDIA”. In 2003/04, he was the President of the Fine Arts Commission at the Ministry of Culture. From 2006 to 2009, he was the Associate Dean for Curriculum at the Faculty of Fine Arts. In 2007, apart from being elected an associate professor of sculpture, sculptural techniques, and drawing, he also starts teaching stage design and scenography. From 2009 to 2011 he is the President of the Artistic Council of DLUM, and from 2011 he is a member of the Artistic Council of DLUM. From 2010 to February 2012 he was in charge of the Department of Sculpture. In 2010 he is elected a member of the University Senate at the University Sts Cyril and Methodius (UKIM). In 2012 he is elected full-time professor of sculpture, sculptural techniques, and drawing, at the Faculty of Fine Arts.

From 2007 to present he has taken part in many art exhibitions in the country and abroad, which include the prestigious World Biennale in Venice, Italy, where he represented the Republic of Macedonia with the group “Zero”. Also, in 2012, by invitation of the publisher “Ili-ili”, he illustrated the cover of the novel “Istanbul Was a Fairy Tale” by the novelist Mario Levi.
